Low-carbon renewable energy is an important part of the future of energy generation. New Earth Energy is building such a facility at the former Britannia Zinc works site in Avonmouth, next to its operational waste treatment facility. Find out more about the plans and keep up to date with developments here.
Who is New Earth Energy?
New Earth Energy is part of New Earth Solutions Group Limited, whose core business is the diversion of waste away from landfill and the recovery of value from the waste stream. This is in accordance with Government commitments to find alternatives to waste going to landfill and to reduce carbon emissions.
New Earth operates two fully enclosed composting facilities and three Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facilities, including the Avonmouth MBT facility which was formally opened in September 2011.
The proposed low-carbon renewable energy facility would complement the Avonmouth MBT facility, positioned on an adjacent site. The MBT facility treats up to 200,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste from the West of England region each year.
Latest news: New Earth has been granted planning permission to build this facility. You can view the application online at the Bristol City Council Public Access website.
