Waste Treatment and Resource Recovery Technology

New Earth Solutions has developed a range of processes for the biological treatment of commercial and municipal wastes.

Our Facilities and Projects

New Earth Solutions is bringing forward a network of waste management facilities. These facilities offer a sustainable means of recovering recyclates and treating the biodegradable fraction contained within a given waste stream.

The company has three operational facilities in the UK (Canford in Dorset, Blaise in Kent, Sharpness in Gloucestershire), with its fourth facility at Cotesbach in Leicestershire becoming operational in 2010 and a fifth, Avonmouth in Bristol, opening spring 2011. Planning permission for a further two facilities at Willow Farm in South Gloucestershire and Longwood in Lincolnshire have also been secured.

New Earth Solutions has been awarded a contract to treat residual household waste of behalf of the West of England Partnership (comprising Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council) at its Avonmouth facility which is currently under construction. Further facilities are being progressed through the planning process in order to deliver significant capacity to meet future contractual opportunities.

A healthy pipeline of prospective sites is helping New Earth Solutions to keep pace with this ambition, albeit we are always happy to investigate new opportunities!

All of the treatment facilities are Animal By-Product Regulation compliant (i.e. pathogens contained within the incoming waste stream are eliminated by means of temperature) and are capable of producing compost to PAS100 standard.

The location, full enclosure and detailed design of New Earth Solutions facilities, combined with their integral air handling and emissions treatment systems, ensure that environmental and amenity impacts are carefully controlled through the process.

Operational Sites

Canford - This site is at the heart of the New Earth Solutions Group business where the company had its origins. The site accommodates New Earth Solutions first waste treatment facility which has been operating since 2003, as well as a landfill gas power station. The Canford facility developed incrementally, affording an opportunity to undertake a comprehensive research and development programme and prove the performance of the company’s patented treatment process. Today, the Canford facility is capable of treating up to 75,000 tonnes of waste per year. In response to identified needs, New Earth Solutions has obtained planning permission to further increase the capacity by an additional 50,000 tonnes. The acceptability of this facility adjacent to a heathland of international nature conservation importance serves to demonstrate the effectiveness of New Earth Solutions integral air handling and emissions treatment systems.

Blaise - This purpose built 50,000 tonne per year facility has been operating since 2008. It is set within a quarry just outside of the town of West Malling. It enjoys excellent access onto the primary road network and serves a number of local authorities with Kent. In 2009 planning permission was granted to increase the overall capacity to 100,000 tonnes of waste per year at Blaise.

Sharpness - New Earth Solutions acquired a fully enclosed composting facility at Sharpness Docks in 2009. The facility has a throughput capacity of 48,000 tonnes of source segregated green and kitchen waste per year. The facility utilises an alternative type of technology than New Earth Solutions established facilities, introducing a rotating drum and pasteurising units into the aerobic composting process.
