Contract signed for aluminium recycling
November 15th 2012
Waste treatment and renewable energy specialist, New Earth Solutions has signed a contract with aluminium re-processors, Alutrade Limited to recycle non-ferrous metals from New Earth’s residual waste treatment facilities.
New Earth uses mechanical biological treatment (MBT) processes to treat “black bag” household waste otherwise destined for landfill or incineration. A useful land remediation compost product is produced from the organic part of the waste, while sophisticated sorting equipment separates out metals and plastics for recycling and also produces a refuse-derived fuel from the non-recyclable fraction for use in energy generation. The contract with Alutrade will secure the recycling of the non-ferrous metals for at least the next 12 months.
Once the material from New Earth arrives at Alutrade it is then separated from being a mixed non-ferrous stream of material into the different components of non-ferrous metals. Alutrade separate the cans and other metals from each other with the primary end-use of the materials being UK can production. Any contamination reprocessed from the product is then returned to New Earth for further separation and recovery. As a ‘Zero To Landfill’ company, Alutrade is pleased to see any waste generated at their site is going back to New Earth for a further opportunity to be recycled and diverted from landfill.
Andrew Powell, Commercial Buyer from Alutrade said, “MBT is a growing area in the recycling industry and by getting on the front foot and coming up with innovative ways of further recycling the streams that are produced by New Earth Solutions, it provides fantastic new business opportunity for both companies.”
Malcolm George, Director of Alutrade said, “It is nice to see real recycling taking place. New Earth Solutions are processing throw away waste and Alutrade Limited is helping them put that back into UK can production.”
Richard Brooke, New Earth’s Commercial Director, is pleased with the arrangement, “I’m delighted to be working with a secure established recycling business like Alutrade. It’s important for New Earth to secure destinations for its recyclable products to maximise the benefits of the process to our customers. This arrangement with Alutrade provides both security and quality re-processing within the UK.”
