New Earth has built up an excellent reputation for undertaking early community engagement and has found it to be an extremely positive process. It provides an opportunity for everyone to understand more about a proposed development, identify key issues that are important to a local community, and ultimately to influence the shape of any subsequent planning application.
It is important to remember that New Earth is more than just a developer; after construction the company will operate the facility. It is our experience that we are quickly viewed as part of the local community – as a neighbour, employer and service provider. The company recognises the importance of forging long-term links with a local community. We therefore start as we mean to continue.
Examples of methods of engagement previously undertaken include:
• Briefings for elected council members
• Community newsletters (distributed electronically and by post)
• Mail shots
• Public exhibitions
• Open meetings
• Presentations and targeted meetings for special interest groups
• Project-specific microsites
New Earth periodically holds Open Days at our facilities. This provides local residents the opportunity to see how the facility operates and understand more about recycling and waste treatment in their area.

Supporting the Community
New Earth undertakes to be involved in community projects around its operational facilities. In Bournemouth, the company is supporting Green Goals.
The Green Goals project is a unique partnership linking football, education and business with the aims of improving the local environment, raising awareness and benefiting the community as a whole. The Project has launched the Green Goals Community Fund – a fantastic opportunity for local community groups to access funding for schemes which improve the local environment, engage children and young people in environmental activities, raise awareness of environmental issues or engage children and young people in healthy activities.
